This corner of Southwest London isn’t famous for vegan food. Type “vegan restaurants Kingston” into a search box and you’d be forgiven for thinking the options are thin. But the search box undersells it. Once you stop looking for places labelled “vegan” and start counting South Indian, Lebanese, Vietnamese and falafel kitchens, plant-based eating here is far better than its reputation.
A quick word on honesty, because it matters if you’re a strict vegan: most places below offer vegan options rather than being fully vegan. We’ve been clear about which is which. Where a kitchen will adapt a dish on request, we’ve said so — and where it serves meat alongside, we’ve said that too.
Dedicated & vegetarian-first
The Dosa Company — 90 Tolworth Broadway, Tolworth (KT6 7HT). This is the standout for anyone who doesn’t eat meat. It’s a 100% vegetarian South Indian restaurant, currently ranked #1 in Tolworth on TripAdvisor with 4.7 stars. The menu runs to dosas, thalis, idli, uttapam and South Indian filter coffee. It does have vegan options, though not every dish is vegan, so check when you order. Tolworth is a short hop from both Surbiton and Kingston.
Glutopia — 3 Griffin Centre, Market Place, Kingston (KT1 1JT). A 100% gluten-free bakery and café, which makes it a rare safe harbour for anyone juggling allergens. It isn’t fully vegan, but the range of vegan, egg-free and dairy-free cakes, muffins and brownies is strong, and there’s a vegan bircher muesli if you want something lighter.
Best for a proper vegan meal
The Cheeky Pea — 34 Eden Walk Shopping Centre, Kingston (KT1 1BJ). A family-run Middle Eastern falafel and hummus counter going since 2013, and a vegan local’s reliable go-to. The vegan and gluten-free falafel burgers, salads and tabbouleh are the draw. It won “Best Independent Food & Drink” at the KBBA Business Awards 2026. One honest caveat: it also serves halal meat, so it isn’t a 100% vegan kitchen.
36 Streets Food — Unit 6, Griffin Centre, Kingston (KT1 1JT). Vietnamese street food, and home to a genuine vegan pho — the Phở Chay, a rice noodle soup with vegetables, lotus root, shiitake and tofu. There are also tofu stir-fries and spring rolls if you’re not in a soup mood.
Comptoir Libanais — 2A Riverside Walk, Kingston (KT1 1QN). Yes, it’s a small chain, but the riverside branch’s vegan range is real and deep. The Lebanese mezze does a lot of the heavy lifting: baba ghanuj, tabbouleh, aubergine tagine, falafel, hommos and lentil soup. Easy to build a full vegan meal here without thinking too hard.
Vegan-friendly brunch & cafés
Avocadium — 77 Surbiton Road, Kingston (KT1 2HW). An independent healthy-brunch café with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options built into the menu rather than bolted on. Look for the açaí smoothie bowl, a plant-based beetroot-hummus benedict and a vegan chocolate banana cake, plus specialty coffee.
Surbeanton — 48 Victoria Road, Surbiton (KT6 4JL). A brunch café whose vegan option is the “Survegan Breakfast” — avocado in black and white sesame, grilled portobello and asparagus on sourdough. There’s also a chickpea salad on sourdough and a mushroom-hummus-avocado sandwich.
Eleana’s Bistro — Chandlers House, 5 High Street, Hampton Wick (KT1 4DA). A neighbourhood Mediterranean bistro where the vegan and vegetarian dishes get the same care as everything else. The falafel bowl is a generous plate of quinoa, hummus and roasted veg — a proper meal rather than an afterthought.
Fortunella Café — 8 Apple Market, Kingston (KT1 1JE). An independent salad and brunch café with vegetarian and vegan dishes and fresh plant-based salads, plus Allpress coffee. Good for a quick, light lunch in the heart of the market.
The Terrace Eatery — Apple Market, Kingston (KT1). An al-fresco market café with vegan options including a salad, a falafel plate and vegan ice-cream — handy when the weather’s good and you want to eat outside.
Vegetarian options across the cuisines
Moksha — 216 Kingston Road, New Malden (KT3 3RJ). Indian and Indo-Chinese cooking, and helpfully the menu clearly marks vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and lactose-free options — so you can navigate it confidently whatever your needs.
Chai Nashta — Old London Road, Kingston (KT2 6QF). Maharashtrian street food, with plant-based items including vada pav, pani puri and chaats. A good shout for snacking your way through dinner rather than a single plate.
Sorabol — 180 New Malden High Street (KT3 4ES). New Malden’s Korean scene leans heavily on meat and seafood, so set your expectations accordingly. Sorabol, though, will adapt dishes for vegetarians and vegans on request — for instance, making the soft tofu stew (sundubu) vegan — alongside vegetarian side dishes. Think accommodating rather than a dedicated vegan menu, and ask when you book.
Before you go
The made-to-order places — Sorabol especially, but anywhere adapting a dish for you — reward a quick call ahead. And if you want the widest choice in one walkable patch, central Kingston is where the concentration sits: Eden Walk, the Griffin Centre, Riverside Walk and Apple Market are all within a few minutes of each other.
