Pub Downstairs, Boutique Upstairs
The Queen’s Head has been a pub on Richmond Road for long enough that locals don’t need the address. The ten bedrooms above it are a more recent addition, and they’ve been done well — this isn’t a pub with a spare room, it’s a pub with proper boutique accommodation that happens to come with a proper local downstairs.
The rooms come in three types: Cosy Double (compact but well-finished), Comfy (more space), and Grand Family (sleeps two adults and up to two children). All get king-size beds with 1600-spring mattresses, Egyptian cotton linen, Nespresso machines, and complimentary toiletries. It’s the kind of thoughtful fit-out that you’d expect from a dedicated boutique hotel, delivered above a Fuller’s pub.
Dog Owners
This is the standout accommodation option for visitors travelling with dogs. Dog-friendly rooms are available, and the pub itself welcomes dogs — no awkward shuffling through a hotel lobby trying to avoid disapproving looks. Richmond Park is a 20-minute walk from the front door, and Canbury Gardens is closer still.
The Location
Richmond Road runs north from Kingston town centre towards Richmond, putting the Queen’s Head within walking distance of both Kingston’s shops and restaurants (12 minutes south) and the riverside at Canbury Gardens (8 minutes west). It’s a residential stretch that feels local rather than touristy.
Kingston station is about 10 minutes on foot, with trains to London Waterloo. Buses run frequently along Richmond Road into both Kingston and Richmond.
Who This Hotel Suits
The Queen’s Head is ideal for visitors who want to experience Kingston as a local rather than a tourist. The pub provides the evening entertainment — no need to research restaurants or navigate an unfamiliar area after dark. Breakfast is included, which simplifies mornings.
Dog owners have the clearest reason to choose this over the alternatives. Families with children can book the Grand Family room. Couples wanting character over chain-hotel predictability will appreciate the atmosphere. Solo travellers who value a friendly bar over room service will feel at home.
The ten-room limit means booking ahead is essential, especially for weekends. This is not the place for spontaneous last-minute stays.
