Lallapolosa started life on the farmers’ market circuit across Surrey and southwest London, and you can taste the graft that built it. Husband-and-wife team Elyse Savage and Adam Jones have collected ten national Great Taste Awards along the way — among them a 3-Gold-Star, the kind of accolade that lands on roughly 100 of nearly 9,000 entries a year. The name, fittingly, means “something exceptional of its kind.”

The Bloomfield Road branch does double duty as bakery and café, so you can grab a coffee and a bake to stay or take the work home. Elyse teaches cake decorating at some of Britain’s most respected cake schools, and that craft shows up in the celebration cakes — these are order-ahead statement pieces, not afterthoughts. There are also brownie subscriptions and baking classes if you want to take a bit of the kitchen with you.

It’s a tucked-away local rather than a high-street draw, which is part of the appeal — the awards do the shouting so the shop doesn’t have to. There’s a second branch over at East Twickenham by Richmond Bridge if you find yourself on that side of the river.
