The Gazebo
Grade II listed riverside pub on the Thames in central Kingston, operated by Samuel Smith's. The river-frontage pavilions date to around 1900, originally part of the gardens of Nos 3 and 5 Thames Street. French doors open straight onto the water, with boats moored a few feet from your table; upstairs balcony for the wider view down the river.
Why we love it
As close to the Thames as a Kingston pub gets — Grade II listed pavilions, rowing-club character inside (red oars on the beams, leather chesterfields), Samuel Smith's beer range. Best riverside drinking spot in central Kingston for a post-walk pint or a lazy weekend afternoon.
Reviews
The Gazebo sits as close to the Thames as a Kingston pub can get — the French doors of the ground-floor bar open straight onto the water, with boats moored a few feet from your table. The two pavilions on the river frontage are the reason it’s Grade II listed: they date to around 1900, built as part of the riverside gardens belonging to Nos 3 and 5 Thames Street.
Inside, it leans hard into rowing-club character. Deep navy walls, red oars fixed to the ceiling beams, framed black-and-white prints of old Kingston and the river, leather chesterfield wingbacks, tartan sofas with red plaid cushions. The wide wooden bar runs along one side; on a sunny afternoon the light pours in through the river-facing doors and the upstairs balcony gives you the wider view down the Thames.
It’s a Samuel Smith’s house, so the beer range is the brewery’s own — worth knowing if you’re a cask ale drinker, as Old Brewery Bitter isn’t pulled here. Lunchtime and evening meals served daily. Hampton Wick station is a 450m walk over the bridge.
Walk in past the front bar and head for the river-facing dining room — the French doors open right onto the Thames and the light through them in late afternoon is the case for being here. Upstairs balcony for the wider view if the ground floor is full. Sam Smith's house, so the beer range is the brewery's own — no Old Brewery Bitter on cask here.
